March 18: Oppenheimer

March 25: Poor Things

Based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name, the story follows the resurrection of Bella. Through unorthodox experimentations with human life and death, scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter raises the young woman back to life. However, her newer version finds her relearning about the world and its ways. At the same time, she discovers inequalities that restrict women in a conservative society. What follows is her newfound quest to pursue liberation and equality.

April 29: American Fiction

Thelonious “Monk” Ellison’s writing career has stalled because his work isn’t deemed “Black enough.” Monk, a writer and English professor, writes a satirical novel under a pseudonym, aiming to expose the publishing world’s hypocrisies. The book’s immediate success forces him to get deeper enmeshed in his assumed identity and challenges his closely-held worldviews.
